The Empower Life Program offers free Naloxone (Narcan) training and access to life-saving overdose-prevention resources for communities across every neighborhood and background.
Naloxone reverses the effects of an opioid overdose, restoring breathing and preventing long-term harm or death. It is safe, easy to use, and relevant for family members, friends, and community members alike.
Overdoses can happen anywhere, to anyone. We believe everyone — regardless of background — deserves the knowledge and tools to respond. This training is designed to be welcoming and accessible to all.
Our free training is short, plain-language, and hands-on. In about an hour, you'll leave knowing how to recognize an overdose and respond.
How to tell an opioid overdose from other emergencies — slowed or stopped breathing, blue or gray lips and fingertips, pinpoint pupils, and unresponsiveness.
How to call 911, give naloxone (nasal spray) safely, perform rescue breathing, and place someone in the recovery position while help arrives.
How to store naloxone, check expiration dates, refill your kit, and talk with loved ones about overdose prevention without stigma.
During an opioid overdose, breathing slows or stops — and permanent brain injury or death can follow within minutes. Naloxone can restore breathing almost immediately, buying the time that first responders need to arrive.
It works only on opioids, has no potential for misuse, and causes no harm if given to someone who turns out not to be overdosing. That's why public-health experts encourage everyone — not just medical professionals — to carry it and know how to use it. The more people trained and equipped, the more lives saved.
